Some Random Shots from September

Gayle got some second hand beautician type mannequin heads for the girls to play hair-dressers with.  Here Avril demonstrates...

Developing her brush-work skills.  (Sorry, only shot that wasn't blurry had her eyes looking downward.)
 Working the hair.
Modeling some shoes in the play kitchen.
McKel, removing the wrapper from an ice-cream sandwich.
The girls play so well together most of the time now.
 The engaged couple.
My work-out buddy and work colleague, Bill Whitford, and I after a sweaty noon hour in the gym at Planet Fitness.  This shot is strictly for historical purposes.

More of Gayle's Primary Girls Activities

We found some shots from an activity earlier this summer, when Gayle went with the girls to the Utah State University ice-cream facility.

Listening to the tour guide explain ice-cream making.
Testing the product.
At another event the girls roasted hot dogs and then ate S'mores in the Schiffmans' back yard.

 Can I have s'more?
 Clowning around.
The next activity was a Hoe-Down dancing event, called by Kathy Meisner Ward.
Haven and her dad, Jeremy Broadhurst.
 Tess and Mike Hoglund.
 Us.
 Kathy Ward, our wonderful instructor.
 Juliana, Greg, and Emmy Nichols.
 Kurt and Avery Anderson.

 Don and Amanda Schiffman.
Gayle's activity day partner, Mindi Schiffman.
Learning another dance.

Wyoming and Lotoja

Our dear friends, Brent and Margaret Mortensen, had us up two consecutive weekends to their cabin in Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming.  The first time was over Labor Day weekend.  Brent and I biked on Saturday up to Alpine, where he got two flats, and a third when he pumped up a replacement tube.  I went ahead up Snake River Canyon and within 10 miles got a flat myself!  The ladies came and picked us up and we went to Jackson where we got the flats repaired.  Good thing we got those out of the way because the following week we had Lotoja!  After we ate lunch that day we went and walked to see some lakes in Teton park, and then biked with the ladies on the bike path in the park.  It was awesome.  On Monday (Labor Day) Brent and I biked in the rain and got some more miles in to prepare for Lotoja.

In front of the Mortensen cabin up in Star Valley, ready to roll.
Looking at part of Leigh Lake, above String Lake, near Mt. Moran (I think), still in my Gran Fondo jersey and ready for riding in the park.
Gayle and I, loving the outdoors.
After church on Sunday we visited the alpacas.
This elicited a laugh.  A sign for a busy intersection and to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.  I guess for Thayne, WY it's busy, but there isn't even a marked crosswalk ahead at the intersection.  But it is near an RV park so I guess people should be aware.  We saw no traffic or pedestrians while shooting the photo.
There was smoke in the air from fires in Idaho, which made for some great shots (from my iphone) of the Tetons as dusk fell on Saturday while riding back after picking up the car after our bike ride down the path.  This is looking over Jenny Lake.
 Another of heavenly light.
 Another.

Here are a few shots from the next weekend, when Brent, David (his son), and I rode as a relay team in the longest (206 miles) sanctioned one day bike race/ride in the U.S. -- Lotoja (stands for LOgan TO JAckson).
Brent, awaiting with David in Afton, WY for me to arrive from Montpelier, ID.
Kristan Fjeldsted, a neighbor (and who I home teach), with her friend Roger from Wyoming - also in Afton.
I made it in, slightly slower than Brent had predicted, but I probably made up for it earlier in the Logan to Preston leg.  Since it was overcast I just wore my prescription glasses to keep the bugs out of my eyes (and to see better).
Brent immediately took off to ride the Afton to Alpine leg, as David (right) takes a photo.  Our team came in just under 11 hours (10:56:59), a record for Brent's team.  Brent let me ride the final stretch into Teton Village.  The whole event was a blast!
In church dress, in front of the Mortensen cabin and next to an interesting weed.

Buenos Aires Seminar 2013

I conducted a seminar for work at the Buenos Aires Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center in the El Retiro part of Buenos Aires in late August.  Here are some related shots:

We visited the cemetery where many wealthy and notable Argentinians have been buried.
These folks were waiting to look at Evita Peron's mausoleum.
Eva Peron was a Duarte.  I'm next to where she was laid to rest.
Some of the plaques at her site.
The female colleagues who joined us on the trip.  Left to right - Daniela Queiroz from Sao Paulo, Brazil (Corporate Vertical Market Manager), Sonia Alonzo from Logan who also has lived in Mexico and Central America (Customer Service), Millie Ullah, of Bangladesh descent but born and raised in London, England, and who now lives in Logan and is a Product Manager, and finally, Rosario Roose, raised in Bolivia but now living in Maryland and who is our Key Account Manager for all of Latin America.
Demonstrations are common in Latin America.  Don't know what this was about but it went by on our way to the "Pink House."
Plaza area where Juan and Eva Peron would address the crowds from a balcony of the Pink House.
Actual front of the Pink House.  I understand Cristina Kirchner (president whose husband had also been president before her and who died - much like Juan and Eva) doesn't actually live here.
The Argentinian flag next to the Pink House.
Dusk, looking at the Bridge of the Woman in the marina area.
The clock tower, a gift from the British many years ago.  Note the trees are bare.  Remember, August is late winter in the southern hemisphere.
The seminar organizer next to some of our products on display.
I ran the seminar in Spanish, and three of our speakers spoke in Spanish.  The others did in English but we had translated hard copies of their presentations in binders for folks to follow along in Spanish.
It was a great opportunity to mingle with key contacts at customers and potential customers.
