McKel and Avril are ready for church!
Both little girls had dental appointments in May. Here's Avril getting a really good brushing job from the assistant. I wasn't there, but I think she's listening to the soundtrack of a video showing above.
And McKel cooperated very well too!
The best part is when it's over! They got toothbrushes and "sharkhead" covers for them.
Nothing like a McDonald's soft ice cream cone.
McKel wears some of her cone.
Avril graduated from her pre-school class. Here she is with her graduation cap.
Graduating class of 2013.
Avril in a pensive pose.
With her favorite teacher- Diana.
A random shot of my beautiful wife of about 36 years. As we like to tell each other..."the spark is still there!"
Gayle and I took our big Odyssey van, with our two road bikes and our two mountain bikes on our Thule bike rack, and drove back to our old home town - Saugus, California. We went mainly to see our friends the Larges. En route we stopped in Fillmore and stayed overnight, enjoying the indoor pool the next morning after I took a run while Gayle rode her bike beside me.
Nancee and Kevin Large, our closest friends from our Saugus days. Kevin is currently being treated for lymphoma and our prayers are with him and the Large family.
Nate Large and his fiancee Jessica (they have since been married). They are a very cute couple.
How could we go to California without getting in the surf? We hit our old favorite, Channel Island State Beach in Oxnard, CA. Here I am with my ancient Bodyglove wetsuit, Morey boogie board, and Viper fins (and booties in hand to prevent fin rash). However, in retrospect we wish we had just gone straight to Ventura's Surf Rider point (California Street north of the Pier). The waves were better and I could've surfed instead.
No matter - we went up there anyway and we got to ride our mountain bikes on the great bike bath that stretches along the coast in the area. Here's Gayle at the point in Ventura.
The path goes by a trestle and Gayle wanted it as a backdrop for a shot.
And near a lagoon I stopped for the view as a kite-surfer enjoys the wind in the background. Driving back to Saugus we took the long way through Ojai, since we'd never been there. My mission pal Rich May and his wife Pam grew up there so I wanted to say I'd been there. We got in some road biking too, up Bouquet Canyon and in the neighborhoods. But we sure are glad we don't have to contend with that traffic all the time now.
Before we left we took this shot.
Kevin knows what he wants and how to find it. He wanted this orangish (the photo makes it look more red) Mercury Mountainer from a few years ago, and he found one across the country. He flew out and drove it home.
And here's the Odyssey with bikes loaded and ready to go.
Sorry, I don't even recall the occasion, but we had the group over for a dinner during May. I think we had what we call "hay stacks."Brit and Jared sat next to each other. On this day her hair featured purple. It varies and keeps things interesting.
Avril and nana were together.
Alicia and Mike Andrus enjoyed the event.
McKel contemplates what to eat next.
On Mother's Day Adrian and family had us over, along with grandma Joyce, to celebrate. He cooked out for us and the meat was great.
Avril and papa spent some time together.
Brit, without purple hair this time.
The matriarch, Gayle, and Avril - three out of four of the generations.
McKel played on the deck and stayed out of the hot sun.
Arleen had a good Mother's Day too!
Jared and his grandma Parkinson.
Ali and the girls.
Group shot. Gayle's doing the photo while Adrian grills.
I ran two seminars for work in San Francisco and San Diego during May. While in La Jolla, I jogged down to the Scripp's pier area. Here's a shot from the beach looking south to La Jolla cove.
